Inserting Images manually/ Image upload module

Hi there,

First off, my thanks to Ms Beighley and her team for "Drupal for Dummies" because it got me started almost painlessly on Drupal. It was really easy to follow along and the detailed instructions really helped and I'm on Day 4 working on Drupal building my site on my local machine.

My question is: how come an image from the local server does not display (I get a broken document thumbnail image)?

On pg 114, to add an image, using the URL of an image already online with the img html tag works when I click save on a blog entry for example. e.g.
<img src="http://www.somewebsite.com/832.jpg" />

On my local machine, I set full html filter and inserted these various combinations but no pictures came out (only the alt texts if I put them).
1. <img src=".../images_test/382.JPG" width="168" />
2. <img src="file:/C:/xampp/htdocs/drupal/sites/default/files/images_test/832.JPG" />
3. <img src="832.JPG" />
4. <img src="file:///C|//localhost/drupal/sites/default/files/images_test/832.JPG"/>

What am I doing wrong? How do I insert the correct code? How do I manually input pictures from my images folder in the computer? My problem is I think I don't know where the web pages for drupal is stored. I thought the path is C:/xampp/htdocs/drupal/sites/default/files/images_test/832.JPG, I put the images inside sites but it doesn't show up on content entries.

I'm asking on the drupal.org forums for an image upload module that works with ckeditor, but in case that doesn't work out and I need to insert images manually, how do I do so? Is the only alternative to get the pictures hosted on a site such as flickr so I can use the URL?

Thanks very much for your help in advance. I've been searching on the net for answers to see how to insert images manually but typing out various combinations doesn't work, my knowledge is still rather shallow so I very much appreciate ideas on how to solve this!

Cheers.

Yes, you would need to log in

Yes, you would need to log in to phpmyadmin and drop the entire database. You may want to try this first though: Go to yoursite.com/update.php and do the update process. Sometimes this can refresh the database and put everything back the way it was.

If that doesn't work, you are going to have to start over with a fresh install like you originally wanted to.

Have you heard of Gallery

Have you heard of Gallery Assist?

I have a post about it: http://www.radarearth.com/content/easy-image-galleries-gallery-assist

It might be what you need, or as the previous poster suggested, IMCE.

I would recommend using

I would recommend using http://drupal.org/project/imce as an image upload module. I use IMCE module along with CKEditor and this seems to work well on my site ... just remember to go into CKEditor - Profiles and set IMCE as your file browser.

@ultimike just put together

@ultimike just put together an excellent presentation on image workflows: http://www.drupalcampct.org/content/image-workflows

From really simple to complex, he outlined a lot of different methods to get images into drupal.

wonderful resource!

@bhosmer, i went to the site and saw some modules ultimike mentioned in the pdf document - although it'd be nice if it had a step-by-step approach.

after reading up more resources and feedback, i realised i did wrong at the start because i put the contrib modules into the core folders instead of localhost/sites/all/modules. if i shift the files, i lose everything and nothing loads, so i shifted it back but i see a sea of commands in red that i don't understand. so i can't move on and i better start over.

may i ask, how do i start over as if it was a fresh install?

i saw http://drupal.org/node/857510 but unlike me, they want to keep their modules whereas I really want to start fresh and do everything all over again. I tried to follow http://drupal.org/node/222037 but as a newbie, saw birds and stars from the first sentence.

What does this mean?
Drop the database (e.g., for the database myd6db)
SQL> drop database myd6db;

Does it mean, I log in to phpAdmin, click on SQL button, and type this in drop database myd6db; into the Run SQL query/queries on server "localhost": Documentation text box?

(i'm wondering if that will next open the floodgates of drupal newbie hell next!)

I just need to verify the step. Thanks so much for your tips!

I replied first above. I

I replied first above. I apologize for the scattering.

I almost forgot, with phpmyadmin, you don't need to type any commands. You can use the graphical links.

Locate your database name in the left hand column.
Click on it.
You will be presented with all the tables and rows in your database.
Scroll down on the right pane and "Check All"
To the right "With Selected" pick "Drop"

This empties your database and will save you time. Now go back to mysite.com and you should be presented with the Drupal installer.

Are you using a localhost or a webhost?
